Administrative HistoryMottram St Andrew's first Parish Council meeting was held 19 Dec 1894 under the Chairmanship of Walter Greg in the village schoolroom. Newton by Macclesfield township merged with Mottram St Andrew in 1936. The original proposal, under the Cheshire County Review, had been to merge the parishes of Butley, Prestbury, Mottram St Andrew, Newton and part of Tytherington but because of the heavy Special Expenses rate of Prestbury and Butley Mottram St Andrew and Newton preferred to be united and separate from Prestbury which amalgamated with Butley and Fallibroome. At a meeting held 11 Jul 1935 representatives of the Mottram and Newton Parishes unanimously agreed to the merger of the two parishes and the first meeting of the merged council then took place 7 April 1936.
